Tucked in the rolling hills of Kampala, Uganda in East Africa is a highly successful construction company named Mukalazi Technical Services. Serving the largest region of Uganda for 50 years, Mukalazi has overseen the construction of many of the region’s top buildings and many major infrastructural projects. Mukalazi Technical Services Team in Plant

Afinitas is connected to Mukalazi in a very interesting way. In fact, we recently learned they have been running one of our Pedershaab VIHY brand Multiflex machines for almost 30 years. And, not just running the machine – using it steadily for their production needs. This is a true testament to the care the Mukalazi team has taken with their equipment, as it has operated with minimal maintenance over these last three decades. Clearly it is also a testament to the high- quality craftsmanship of HawkeyePedershaab machines as this is not an isolated case. There are several HawkeyePedershaab machines of similar vintage still running around the world.

We are so honored that our equipment is part of Mukalazi’s successful operation in Uganda, and our sales manager Choukri Karabach was delighted to be able to ask Mukalazi Daudi, current director at Mukalazi Technical Services, a few questions about their history with us.

Choukri Karabach (Afinitas):

Can you talk a little about your decision to purchase the Multiflex machine?

 Mr. Mukalazi:

We bought this machine back in 1994 through an arrangement with the Islamic Development Bank.” (Note: the Islamic Development Bank is a multilateral development bank (MDB) which works to improve lives by promoting social and economic development in member communities like Uganda)

Choukri Karabach (Afinitas):

What are you currently making with the Multiflex and how is it working for you?

  Mr. Mukalazi:

Currently we produce concrete culverts with the Multiflex machine, and it is the best machine we have used for this so far. It is very efficient and requires very little maintenance.”

Choukri Karabach (Afinitas):

If given the chance, would you purchase another Multiflex?

 Mr. Mukalazi:

“Yes. The machine is excellent. We’ve been able to supply culverts to projects like the Kampala Flyover (financed by Japan International Cooperation Agency). This project is a road-improvement project in the Central Division of Kampala (Uganda’s capital).  We’ve also supplied culverts to the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development Program (USMID) which was initiated to enhance the institutional performance of local governments to improve urban service delivery. Our products were used in the development of roads like Mityana Road which connects Kampala to the town of Mityana. (Prior to 2009 it was a gravel road).  In addition we have supplied concrete pipes to rehabilitate the Iganga Road in Jinga Uganda, financed by KFW Development Bank, among many other projects.”
